The square body distributes shock impacts between the lathe's rest and the tools. The tool's 45-degree flat on the shank provides a stable cut even with interrupted cuts. This tool is available in both 5/8" and 3/8" sizes.

A Hercules Swanneck Hollowing Tool is a unique tool that has a round shape. This allows for many cutting applications including side grain work, blind turning, undercutting and blind turning. It comes in three different lengths to fit your needs: the 14'' (851H) is intended for end grain use in projects that do not require deep cuts, the 20'' (855H) allows for greater reach, and the 24'' (859H) is fabricated from a substantial section steel. This system works with any tool with a 1/2" tang handle. It is new for $425, and shipping included. To complete the system, you can purchase optional tools.

FAQ

Can I refinish furniture that I make?

Yes! There are plenty of ways to refinish old pieces of furniture without having to pay a pro. Here are a few ideas:

Use sandpaper to remove scratches and stains. Then wipe down the surface with a clean cloth.

Apply clear polyurethane paint. Allow furniture to dry completely before you move it around.

Acrylic paint can be used to paint furniture.

Use stain instead of paint. Furniture will look richer with the stain.

Use shellac wax. Wax will protect the wood and add shine.

What is the main difference between plywood or particle board?

Plywood consists of layers made from wood and pressed together by pressure. Plywood comes with a range of thicknesses, and it is most commonly used for flooring and cabinets. Particle board consists of sawdust mixed and resin. The resin is then compressed into large blocks. It's often used for home renovation projects. Both types are sturdy and easy to cut.

How can I tell what kind of wood I am working with?

Always check the label before purchasing wood. The label should contain information about the wood species, its moisture content, and whether it has been treated with preservatives.

How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will demonstrate how to join two pieces together of wood. The "pocket hole joint" is a method whereby we drill holes into the wood and glue them together. This works well if the wood is straight and smooth. Dowel joinery might be a better option if your wood is not straight or flat. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. First, measure the area where you wish to place the pocket joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the wood's edges will help ensure that the joint won't split later.
  3. Glue Together. Apply glue to both the ends of the wood. Allow the wood to rest for five minutes before clamping it together.
  4. Fix the Pieces together. Once the glue has dried, clamp the pieces together so they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim any excess wood surrounding the joint once the glue has dried completely.

Make sure to leave enough room between the pieces so that you can turn them inside and out.
