How can I keep my shop organised?

To keep your workshop tidy and organized, you should first create a place for tools storage. You want your tools to stay clean and free from debris and dust. To hang accessories and tools, use pegboard hooks.

How To

How to join wood with no nails

Woodworking is a favorite hobby. You can make useful items from wood with your hands, which is both relaxing and fun. You may need to join two pieces without the use of nails. This article will help you to maintain the beauty of your woodwork projects.

First, remove any sharp edges from the wood pieces before you join them. You don't want to leave sharp corners that could cause problems later on down the road. Once you have done that, you can begin gluing your boards together.

You should only glue one side of hardwood. You should glue both sides if you are working with softwoods such as pine and cedar. Apply the glue to the boards and press them down until they are securely attached. Before you proceed to the next step, be sure to let the glue dry completely.

After you have glued the boards together, drill holes in the joints where you intend to place screws. You can choose the type of screw to determine the size of your holes. If you plan to use a 1/2 inch wood screw, drill a hole at least 3/4 inches in depth.

Once you have drilled the holes, the next step is to drive your screws through the joint into the board's backside. Don't hit the board's surface. You could damage the finish. Try to not hit the ends of the screws when driving the screws. This will help prevent splitting of the end grain.

Now that your project is finished, you'll want to protect it from the elements. You have two options: seal the whole furniture piece or just the top. It doesn't matter what method you use, you want something that will last many years. Some examples include oil-based varnishes, polyurethane, shellac, lacquer, etc.

These products can be found in most home improvement shops. You should make sure you are getting the right type for the job. Don't forget to keep in mind that some finishes are toxic. So, always wear protective gear when handling them.
